This is the generation of them that seek after him, That seek thy face, even Jacob. [Selah

This is the generation (description) of those who diligently seek Him and require Him as their greatest need, Who seek Your face, even [as did] Jacob. Selah.

This is the generation [description] of those who seek Him [who inquire of and for Him and of necessity require Him], who seek Your face, [O God of] Jacob. Selah [pause, and think of that]! [Ps. 42:1.

O Lord, remember your compassion and your mercies, which are from ages past.
